Ke-Monate – Bacon, Eggs and Cappuccinos

The Ke-Monate Restaurant is situated on the Signal Gun farm, which forms part of the Durbanville Wine Valley. The name, Ke-Monate is Sotho, which means "that's nice" - which is quite fitting for the restaurant. It's a nice, quaint spot right at the top of the Hoogeberg Hill. The views from there are really great. Unfortunately, we visited when the weather was a bit miserable, but you can still get a good idea (see below). The venue also has a kiddies play area, which you can also see in the pic below.

Kiddies Play Area and Great Views

We decided to visit for breakfast this time and started the morning off with this beautiful cappuccino (see below). I like to say that coffee keeps me going until it's appropriate to drink wine!

The Morning Essential: Cappuccino

They don't have a huge range of breakfast options on the menu, but what they do have is pretty much enough for everyone to find something they would enjoy. The Husband ordered these Poached Eggs (see below) for R78. They are served with red onions, baby tomatoes, Hollandaise sauce, cheddar cheese, brioche spent malt bread and a choice of bacon or ham. (Side note: Choose bacon, always).

This dish was really tasty, but I wouldn't advise eating it if you can't handle rich food (and also if you are hungover). But, as mentioned, it was tasty. The bread is quite unique in that it is made on site and the Spent Malt is added from their very own brewery. It's quite delicious.

I opted for the Hash Brown Breakfast (see below) for R76. It's served with eggs, bacon, tomato, mushrooms, hash browns, and their brioche spent malt toast. The pic below is my Mother-in-law's breakfast because I like my eggs to be cooked for days, which obviously doesn't look too great in the photo.

We liked this breakfast a lot. It really is good value for money as you get a generous portion for the price you pay. The only downside was that the hash browns were a tad on the oily side, but I liked them like that so I was happy. The rest of the breakfast was delicious and the toast adds a unique taste.

After breakfast, you can head over for some Signal Gun wine tasting above the restaurant. We've had a chocolate and wine pairing there before (see below).

The restaurant is open from Tuesdays to Fridays (10:00 - 23:00), Saturday (09:00 - 23:00) and Sunday (09:00 - 16:00).
