Diemersdal Wine Estate is situated just outside of Durbanville. I've been there on many occasions and recently had a lovely dinner there. This time, however, my husband and I popped in for some wine tasting and a cheese and charcuterie platter. This is such a fun thing to do after work on a Friday (if you finish early), especially when the weather is great and you can sit outside in the sun. Alternatively, you can go on the weekend, and spend the day soaking up the sun (and the wine!).
For the wine tasting, they charge R25 for six wines, which is very reasonable (usually, you pay at least R50 at a decent wine farm). They have a range of wines for you to choose your six from, but because I am a huge Sauvignon Blanc fan, I went straight for those. The wine tasting I had (see below) consisted of: the new 2016 Sauvignon Blanc, the Sauvignon Blanc Reserve, the 8 Rows Sauvignon Blanc, the Grüner Veltliner, the Merlot, and the Private Collection, which is a Bordeaux Blend.
Usually, they don't bring you all of their wines at once - I just wanted to take this awesome photo. You normally take your glass to them in the Tasting Area and they top you up with whatever is next on your list. If you feel like a snack, you can order the Tasting Room's Cheese Platter of R75, where you can sit in the tasting area - either under the vines, or inside the room itself. This cheese platter is called the Dalewood Cheese Platter and it consists of four cheeses and crackers.
However, if you'd like to sit on the grass area, which is usually reserved for guests for the Eatery, you can order a Cheese and Charcuterie Platter of R160, so that you can also have an amazing view. This platter is called the Restaurant Cheese and Charcuterie Platter (see below) and it consists of Cheese, Cold Meats, Preserves and Fresh Bread. It is a bit pricey, but it was nice, and, paired with the wine tasting of R25, it wasn't too heavy on the wallet.
My favourite wines were the Sauvignon Blanc Reserve (full-flavoured, green herbs, asparagus) which costs R100 at the farm, and, the Private Collection (Bordeaux blend, dark chocolate, blackberry jam), which costs R132 at the farm.
