If you haven't been for a champagne and nougat tasting at JC Le Roux, you have not lived. It is an awesome experience. (Technically, one can not call it champagne though. Technically, it's MCC. But 'MCC and nougat' just does not have the same ring to it, does it?)
JC Le Roux offers a variety of paired tastings. They have a Deluxe Tasting (R80), which consists of 5 pre-selected MCCs, paired with millionaire shortbread, meringues and chocolate-coated figs. I had the Bubbly and Nougat Tasting (R90), which also consists of 5 pre-selected MCCs served with different flavours of nougat (see below).
The next pairing I'd like to try is the Olive Tasting (R65), which consists of 5 pre-selected MCCs and a variety of flavoured olives. Yum. They also have a standard Sparkling Wine Tasting (R45) and a MCC Tasting (R110).
After you've had a tasting of some sort, you can go upstairs to their restaurant, Le Venue. Their menu changes weekly, making use of seasonal ingredients. At the time we went, we had Pork Belly, served with apple and yoghurt, and Salmon, served with mango and a balsamic dressing (see below).
The prices range from about R85 to R160, depending on what you feel like. They have a whole range of options to choose from, including tapas, burgers and even a braai section - where you can order chicken and sausage or a beef skewer.
